On May 15, 2024, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the DOST Industrial Technology Development Institute, in collaboration with Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) through the Zamboanga Peninsula Food Innovation Center, officially launched and inaugurated their groundbreaking project, dubbed “FoodTrip”, at Octagon Hall, ZSCMST.

This facility is a 32-foot truck customized to accommodate mechanical dryers, a pulverizer, scientific/analytical equipment, and kitchen tools. Designed to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in food processing, including farmers and fisherfolk cooperatives, its main goal is to enhance local food producers’ capabilities and boost the food industry in the region. The launch of FoodTrip is a major step forward for the local food sector, providing MSMEs, farmers, and fisherfolk in the Zamboanga Peninsula with access to advanced food processing technology.

With the inauguration of FoodTrip, the DOST and ZSCMST reaffirmed their commitment to support the growth and development of the food sector, ensuring that local enterprises have the tools and resources needed to compete in the market, improve food security, and contribute to the overall economic progress of the region.
