5th Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference 2023

Look | Four ZSCMST Faculty members from the English Department participated and presented at the 5th Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference 2023 held from April 27-29, 2023 at the MSU-IIT Iligan City with the theme “Decentering, Decolonizing and Deconstructing, Languages in New Paradigms and Discourses”.

Dr. Abee M. Eijansantos presented a paper on the erratic morphosyntax of the Philippine Creole Spanish “con” and on the devoicing and contextually limited plosives and affricates of this Creole language.

Meanwhile, Assist. Prof. Armand H. Lee presented a paper on the categories, patterns, affixations, and semantic fields of the English lexical borrowings in Chabacano television newscast, co-authored with Luis Soliman from the Department of Education.

Assist. Prof. Gefilloyd L. De Castro presented papers on the development of specialized wordlist for accountancy learners, and on the rhetorical appeals on selected Philippine bank advertisings on Facebook, co-authored with MATESP alumni Irish B. Galiz and Sandralyn P. Martinez respectively.

Assist. Prof. Nuriza P. Jalani presented a paper on semiotics on the rhetorical strategies employed in selected chocolate products in the Philippines.
