Commission on Higher Education Chair Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis welcomes participants to the the third leg of ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA IQA) Workshop in, with Western Mindanao State University today Tuesday, September 15, 2026

Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, along with President Roy Valesco, Quality Management Office representatives and top officials attended the 3-day event.

The series of workshops aims to enhance collaborative capacity building initiatives in universities and colleges. Guided by the four major organizations the ASEAN University, SEAMEO RIHED (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development), AQAN (ASEAN Quality Assurance Network), and AACCUP (Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines), Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC), Cebu Technological University (CTU) were the co-facilitators for the Luzon and Visayas legs for July and August, 2026, before coming to WMSU.

Philippine Higher Education Commission Chair Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis in her speech before teachers, educators, school officials and Quality Management Office representatives, at WMSU, she believes that Education should be in touch with reality, emphasizes on how to strengthen what still must be done amid complexity of the Philippine Education System where within thrives diverse cultures with different needs, different capacities and different challenges.

A consistent purpose and drive for quality management is perpetually a constant learning for 483 higher education institutions in Mindanao alone, 2,634 for the entire country, honing at least 5.5 Million students.
