The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) conducted a Seminar-Workshop on Student Handbook Development on August 27, 2025, at Octagon Hall. This activity was facilitated by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Academic Services and the Office of the Student Affairs.

The seminar-workshop aimed to ensure that the student handbook remains responsive to the needs of the learners and reflective of the values and standards upheld by the college. The handbook serves as a comprehensive guide for students, outlining their rights, responsibilities, and obligations, as well as institutional policies that promote order, discipline, and student welfare.

Dr. Rocelyn R. Alabata, Vice President for Student Affairs and Academic Services, emphasized in her message the importance of the handbook as a vital document in the academic journey of every student.

“We know that the student handbook is a foundational document in the institution. This document is very important to our students as it serves as their guiding light. It is important for them to be guided and become responsible, because they will be able not only to recognize their responsibilities but also their rights and obligations, and to understand what they are supposed to do inside the school vicinity for them to perform well,” Dr. Alabata highlighted.

The resource lecturer of the event was Dr. Maria Frencie Carreon, a respected journalist, author, research writer, writing coach, an editor, research consultant, and journalism writing trainer. She provided valued insights on how to properly prepare and develop the student handbook.

With this, ZSCMST continues its commitment to provide a well-structured student handbook that empowers students to grow in this institution.
