On September 18, 2024, a significant event titled “π π’π¬π‘πππ₯π€π¬: ππ«ππ§π¬π₯πππ’π§π πππ’ππ§ππ π’π§ππ¨ ππ¦π©πππ𬔠was held at the ZSCMST Octagon Hall, Zamboanga City. This event was organized as part of the 2024 Siyensaya celebration, which aligns with Maritime & Archipelagic Nations Month. The event’s theme, “Kaalaman, Kakayahan, Kabuhayan,” emphasized the importance of science in driving sustainable progress in the country’s marine and archipelagic sectors.
The program began with an audiovisual presentation, followed by a rationale presentation by Dr. Rufa L. Mendez, the VP for Research, Innovation, and Extension.
The first major presentation was given by Dr. Richard N. Muallil, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension at Mindanao State University – Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography. It was followed by the presentation of Ms. Divina B. Ignacio, the NSAP Project Leader from the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources IX.
An open forum and question and answer session followed the presentations, allowing participants to engage in discussions and clarify various topics.
During the afternoon session, Dr. Wilfredo L. Campos, DOST-NRCP RD Leader, led a synthesis of the dayβs discussions and outlined the key takeaways and next steps in translating research into practical outcomes. This was followed by a session on βWays Forward,β engaging participants on how to build on the insights gained.
The program ended with impressions from selected participants and closing remarks by Ms. Aldette D. Navarro, MSc, Director of the Research and Development Office.
This event was a significant milestone for researchers and stakeholders in the marine and fisheries sector, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in addressing challenges and driving innovation in the country’s aquatic resources.
