The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) is conducting a 3-day Strategic Planning Workshop on May 6-8, 2025 at Manuel’s Resort, Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte Workshop to set the course for the institution’s development from 2025 to 2029.

With the theme “ZSCMST at the Helm of Regional Advancement in Fisheries, Marine Sciences, Maritime Education, Innovation, and Technology-Driven Fields,” the activity intends to strengthen the institution’s role in advancing academic excellence.

Under the leadership of Pres. Roy. L. Valesco, Ph. D., the workshop brings together the institution’s Vice Presidents, Deans of Colleges, Directors for Administrative Support Services, Heads of Administrative and Academic Support to share strategies, discuss institutional priorities, and develop a shared vision and mission. The activity includes presentations on organizational goals, institutional thrusts, and strategic directions with the guidance of the College President.

Dr. Valesco challenged participants in his message, “We must renew our commitment to academic excellence, relevance, and service. We must reignite the passion that once made this college a pillar of its community. We are not starting from scratch—we are building on a proud legacy…With honesty and courage, we must restructure. This means assessing our systems, our programs, our processes, and yes—even our mindset. What worked yesterday may no longer serve us today. We will streamline inefficiencies, eliminate strong bulk of useless materials, and strengthen collaboration across departments.”

Through this initiative, ZSCMST aims to build a more agile, responsive, and impactful institution equipped to face modern educational challenges and opportunities.
